Construction debris can damage a new valve before normal operation begins. Welding residue, scale and foreign objects should be addressed by an approved cleaning and commissioning procedure.
Plan cleaning before installation
Decide whether the valve should be removed, replaced by a temporary spool or protected by another approved method during line cleaning. The correct choice depends on the valve, fluid and project procedure. Do not assume that holding every valve open during flushing is always sufficient.
Control what reaches the seat
A small hard particle can mark a sealing surface or interfere with closure. A strainer may help in suitable service, but its mesh, pressure loss and maintenance access must fit the process. Fibrous or plugging media can make an inappropriate strainer a new operational problem.
Inspect before functional acceptance
After the line-cleaning stage, verify the valve’s condition and function according to the supplied instructions. If abnormal torque or leakage appears, investigate rather than repeatedly forcing the assembly closed. Keep cleaning and inspection records linked to the commissioning package.
Practical checklist
- Approved cleaning method and valve protection.
- Expected debris and suitable temporary measures.
- Inspection after cleaning.
- Safe response to unexpected torque or leakage.
