Installation orientation is a configuration-specific requirement. The valve, actuator weight, fluid behavior and maintenance access all influence what is acceptable.
Use the manufacturer’s guidance
Do not apply a universal rule that every rotary valve should have a vertical or horizontal shaft. Check the actual product instructions, approved drawing and any limitations associated with the actuator or accessories. Heavy packages may need support that does not impose unintended loads on the valve.
Consider the medium
Settling solids, condensate or trapped material may affect bearings, seats or accessible low points differently depending on orientation. The correct arrangement should be reviewed for the fluid and cleaning procedure. A convenient fit in the pipe rack is not enough if it leaves the seat exposed to persistent deposits.
Leave room for the next service task
Allow access to the air filter, solenoid, positioner, manual override and fasteners. Confirm the path for removing the actuator or valve without unsafe lifting or dismantling unrelated equipment. Include insulation and weather protection in the clearance review, because these can hide service points after installation.
Practical checklist
- Orientation approved for the exact package.
- Weight and support reviewed.
- Fluid settling and drainage considered.
- Maintenance and removal space preserved.
