The lowest purchase price is not always the lowest total cost. Energy loss, accessories, maintenance, spares and downtime can outweigh a small difference in the initial valve price.
Compare the same supplied scope
A bare valve, an actuated valve and a complete control assembly are different products. Normalize the quotation for materials, pressure rating, actuator duty, positioner, solenoid, feedback, tubing and documentation. Include any piping adaptation or control-system changes required by a proposed replacement.
Consider operating losses carefully
Pressure dissipated across a liquid valve represents hydraulic energy. For an illustrative qualifying liquid flow of 50 m³/h across 1 bar, hydraulic power is about 1.39 kW before accounting for pump efficiency and the complete system. Reducing unnecessary losses may matter, but a control valve still needs an appropriate pressure share to regulate. Do not optimize energy by removing the pressure margin needed for stable control.
Put downtime into the decision
Estimate the consequence of a failure, the time needed to isolate and repair, and the availability of critical spares. Use realistic operating hours and maintenance assumptions. Avoid presenting a guaranteed payback from generic numbers; the economics belong to the actual installation.
