A catalogue’s maximum size, pressure and temperature often apply to different configurations. Selecting all the largest values at once does not define an available or qualified valve.
Body and trim limits are separate
The body material has a pressure-temperature relationship. The seat, packing, bearings and secondary seals have their own limits. The usable assembly envelope is constrained by the applicable component limits, not simply by the highest number in a brochure heading.
Read the configuration notes
The supplied 2023 VPORTA flyer lists several flanged temperature envelopes. These refer to different constructions. The wafer platform has a different stated range. Older catalogues may describe other series, pressure classes or seat arrangements. Use one identified revision and confirm the current offer rather than mixing values across documents.
Ask for an approved operating envelope
Provide both continuous and occasional conditions, including cleaning, start-up and thermal upset. Request confirmation that the offered materials and construction meet the pressure at the specified temperature. Include the actuator’s ambient exposure if the valve is hot or insulated, because actuator electronics and seals can have different limits.
Practical checklist
- Operating pressure paired with temperature.
- Seat, packing and secondary-seal limits.
- Continuous versus short-duration conditions.
- One approved datasheet for the offered configuration.
