VPORTA / PROCESS VALVE SYSTEMS
V-port vs full-port ball valve
A full-port ball valve and a V-port control valve solve different flow-path problems. Match the geometry to the required task.
| Decision point | V-port valve | Full-port ball valve |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Characterized V-notch or V-shaped port | Usually a circular bore |
| Main selection priority | Controllable capacity over a range | Low-loss isolation when fully open |
| Modulation | Designed and sized for suitable control duty | Possible only when the specific design is suitable |
| Piggability | Generally not assumed | Possible in suitably designed full-bore systems |
| Seat wear at low opening | Must be assessed for the fluid and trim | Sustained throttling may expose seats unfavorably |
| Ordering language | Specify segment or full-ball construction | Specify actual bore and isolation features |
What changes the decision?
Do not assume that machining a notch into a general isolation valve creates a qualified control valve. The seat support, shaft stiffness, actuation and characterized capacity also matter.
Compare offers on the same basis
- Use identical medium composition, flow cases, pressures and temperatures.
- State the same leakage test, failure response and accessory scope.
- Compare expected maintenance and spare parts alongside the purchase price.
- Request drawings and technical deviations before accepting an alternative.
