VPORTA / PROCESS VALVE SYSTEMS
Metal seat vs soft seat for V-port valves
Choose a seat system using chemistry, temperature, solids and required shut-off performance. Material labels alone cannot establish suitability.
| Decision point | Metal seating | Soft seating |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Can suit higher-temperature constructions | Limited by the specified polymer system |
| Solids and abrasion | Can offer hardened surfaces | May be vulnerable to cutting or embedment |
| Leakage class | Depends on finishing, coating and design | Can provide tight shut-off in qualified conditions |
| Operating torque | Depends on interference, pressure and wear | Depends on seat loading and polymer behavior |
| Compatibility | Review alloy and coating compatibility | Review polymer, filler and fluid compatibility |
| Specification | State exact trim and leakage test | State exact seat grade and leakage test |
What changes the decision?
The whole valve temperature rating includes packing, bearings and secondary seals. A metal seat does not remove all temperature limitations, and a soft seat does not guarantee zero leakage in every service.
Compare offers on the same basis
- Use identical medium composition, flow cases, pressures and temperatures.
- State the same leakage test, failure response and accessory scope.
- Compare expected maintenance and spare parts alongside the purchase price.
- Request drawings and technical deviations before accepting an alternative.
