V-port ball valve vs globe control valve
Compare the whole operating envelope. Rotary V-port valves can offer high capacity and a compact assembly; globe valves offer a broad range of specialized control trims.
| Decision point | V-port valve | Globe control valve |
|---|---|---|
| Actuation | Quarter-turn rotary | Linear travel |
| Capacity and envelope | Often useful where compactness and capacity matter | Depends strongly on body and trim |
| Fibrous media | V-notch geometry can be advantageous | Small cage passages may require careful solids review |
| Severe pressure reduction | Evaluate recovery, noise and cavitation limits | Specialized multistage and low-noise trims may be available |
| Shut-off | Seat and torque dependent | Seat and actuator force dependent |
| Selection evidence | Installed flow curve and operating cases | Installed flow curve and operating cases |
What changes the decision?
A V-port valve is not automatically the right replacement for a severe-service globe valve. Preserve the original noise, cavitation, shut-off and failure requirements when reviewing alternatives.
Compare offers on the same basis
- Use identical medium composition, flow cases, pressures and temperatures.
- State the same leakage test, failure response and accessory scope.
- Compare expected maintenance and spare parts alongside the purchase price.
- Request drawings and technical deviations before accepting an alternative.
